The new police district according to sources will include an area from Jafrabad to Mangrol coast. It will be headed by a Superintendent of Police live officer. A proposal for this has arrived in Gandhinagar from Junagadh district. The government is planning to include marine police stations and other coastal police station in new proposed police district of Somnath.
It should be mentioned that presently the Somnath Mandir falls under Junagadh district police. The district police is unable to focus on the security of Somnath mandir due to need to attend other areas of the district.
The government of Gujarat has given highest priority to protection and security of Shri Somnath Mandir. Last week, a second patrolling boat was allotted to coastal security staff of marine police of Somnath. SRP jawans are already deployed inside and outside the Somnath campus in unprecedented large number.
The Mandir is one of the most threatened targets of terrorists based in Pakistan.
