The April Fool day was celebrated creatively by Gujarat’s leading dailies today. The largest circulated Gujarati daily Gujarat Samachar today published a front page news story that Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan had taken a decision to join BJP. The news item said the superstar would meet Chief Minister Narendra Modi at 10:30 am. The news item also expressed a possibility that Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan would also join the Big B in his Gandhinagar meeting.
“I didn’t want to enter in politics but Modiji prompted me to join politics with positive attitude to serve the country, and the best option was BJP,” Bachchan was fictitiously quoted in the April Fool day story of Gujarat Samachar. The news story said Amitabh Bachchan would take lunch with Mr. Modi and then would go to Delhi where in presence of party’s national leaders he would join the party.
In another April Fool day story, Gujarat Samachar announced that the government of Gujarat has organized a lucky draw, and 100 winners will get a chance to have lunch with Amitabh Bachchan. Another 500 winners will get a T shirt signed by Amitabh Bachchan and next 1000 winners will get VIP pass to attend Gujarat’s golden jubilee function graced by Amitabh Bachchan and many other celebrities on 1st of May this year. The Gujarat Samachar further writes that the token would be distributed only for one-day on 1st April between 7am to 6pm.
Gujarat Samachar’s this story made many Bachchan fans running to various police stations and police chowkies. For police staff, it was funny enough to inform the visitors that the news item published in Gujarat Samachar that brought them to police station was April-Fool-Day-Gimmick.
The article narrates the detail that the tokens would be available at all police stations, police posts and civic centres of seven Municipal Corporation bodies. The district collectors are responsible for proper allocation of tokens and they are told to maintain a register. The draw would be held on 20th April and the winners will be awarded passes on that day only. The government has issued 1 million tokens.
While Gujarat Samachar showed its creativity, the second most read Gujarati daily Sandesh published an April Fool day news item informing that all 10th and 12th standard students would be promoted this year and no one would be declared as failed, as the government has taken decision in this regard to celebrate the golden jubilee year of statehood to Gujarat.
