This Gujarat village punishes bootleggers in a unique way

Villagers of Norta village in north Gujarat on Sunday organized a procession in which three persons who had brought liquor to this village were forced to walk with liquor bottles on their heads.
Thakor community dominated Norta village had announced liquor prohibition way back before one and half century. The village has a special local committee for proper implementation of liquor prohibition. The village has its own set of rules about liquor such as Rs 5000 fine for brewing of liquor, Rs 1000 fine for drinking and Rs 2000 fine for anyone who goes to the police station to help the culprits involved in liquor related crime.
On Sunday, the village people got information that three persons from Kankrej Taluka’s Khariya village had entered Norta village to supply liquor here. The villagers nabbed all of them with their rickshaw and found 30 litre desi liquor worth Rs 600 in farm nearby. The culprits were made to walk in a procession with liquor bottles on their heads. The procession passed through major parts of Norta village. People gathered to see this mockery of liquor men made fun of them throughout the procession. Later village people called police and handed over the culprits who were later taken to the Patan taluka police station.
