The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a nationwide protest on Wednesday against the alleged misuse of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.
The BJP supporters and activists in the capital raised slogans against the Government and described CBI as the ‘Corrupt Bureau of Investigation and Congress Bureau of Investigation’.
They claimed that the CBI is being used as a tool to pressurize any voice of dissent to the UPA, and that it is systematically targeting leaders of the opposition, particularly those belonging to the BJP, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD).
“A national investigating agency, which must operate in an objective, unbiased manner has been taking sides and is working as a private company of the ruling government,” said a BJP activist.
The BJP organized the demonstrations in retaliation to alleged ‘harassment and blackmailing’ by the CBI, claiming that the agency operates under the directions of the UPA.
“CBI must be regulated and granted the status of an autonomous, constitutional body akin the Election Commission so that no government can misuse the agency,” said BJP leader Vijay Goel.
BJP activists staged a massive protest in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar city.
“The policemen are being hounded in Gujarat, and the CBI is taking charge of all investigations in the state. Why are they doing this? Does the task of managing day to day affairs of Gujarat come under the purview of the CBI?” remarked Purushottam Rupala, Vice President of BJP.
