It’s Surat flood 2006 like situation in parts of Saurashtra

The NDRF’s 40 jawans reached flood affected Jamnagar district’s Khambhaliya today morning. But people say, just 40 jawans are not enough. The situation is more serious than the state govt estimates. Jamnagar’s 27 out of 38 reservoirs are overflowing four to five ft. There is water water and water everywhere, in homes, in offices, in shops. Hundreds of vehicles are damaged due to flooding water. Bed river is heavily flooded. This is the situation all over in Kalyanpur, Khambhaliya and Lalpur talukas of the district. Road traffic is disrupted badly. The situation is similar to Surat flood 2006.
The situation is somewhat lighter but not normal in Junagadh district. Important roads such as Talala-Una, Talala-Veraval, Kodinar-Veraval are disconnected. The rain is continuously on, rivers are flooding, and add to this, there is high tide in Arabian sea, that pushes the flood water back. Somnath Mandir’s protection wall has major breakdown and repairing work is on. The district collector yesterday convened an emergency meeting in view of flood situation. Today he called team of NDRF for rescue work. Kodinar’s Shingoda dam, Sasan Gir’s Kamleshwar dam are overflowing. In a village near Talala, one person was dead after drowned in river, while two are missing. Veraval’s Devka and Hiran river are flooding. One dam is overflowing. One team of NDRF consisting 25 jawans is deployed here. One team was sent to Talala also. Collector is camping in Veraval.
Parts of Porbandar(especially Ghed belt), Amreli and Rajkot districts are also facing flood like situation. Numerous dams are overflowing and heavy rain is continuously pouring in the areas. Kutch’s Abadasa, and Rapar are experiencing extra-ordinary rainfall. Rivers in these areas are flooding.
Heavy rain continued in Gondal, Surendranagar, Jasdan today.
