Small parties allege BJP-Cong deal on Gujarat encounters
New Delhi, 18 August, 2010

Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Wednesday after members of small regional parties like Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) alleged deal between the ruling Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the nuke liabilities bill in exchange for clean chit to Narendra Modi in Sohrabuddin case.

Small party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP) and Lalu Prasad (RJD) waved copies of a newspaper carrying reports related to the Sohrabuddin encounter case which was strongly objected to by Speaker Meira Kumar. The newspaper report they were referring to was about CBI Director stating that there was no evidence against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Sohrabuddin encounter case. Lalu objected clean chit to Modi, as Bihar elections are near and he believes anti-Modi stand can give some Muslim votes. He smelled Cong-BJP deal because to pass the Nuclear liability bill, Congress led UPA has secured BJP support in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and Lalu, Mulayam etc. are opposing the bill.

As the uproar continued, Kumar adjourned the proceedings till noon.
