SIT indicts Zadafia, Gondia, Tandon, says no to Ishrat probe
New Delhi, 19 August, 2010
Submitting its report to the Supreme Court in the 2002 Gujarat riots case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday indicted Gujarat’s former minister of state for home Gordhan Zadafia and two senior cops DGP MK Tandon and IGP PB Gondia. The SIT has also expressed its inability to probe the Ishrat Jehan case.
The Supreme Court-appointed SIT, headed by former CBI director RK Raghavan, has found the three guilty of criminal negligence and criminal involvement. The SIT team claims that they have enough evidence against Zadafia, MK Tandon, and PB Gondia.
In 2002, Zadafia was minister of state for Home, Tandon was the joint commissioner of the Gujarat police, sector 2, while Gondia was the deputy commissioner of police in the same sector. Both officers were in charge of Naroda-Patia, where 95 people were killed and Gulbarg Society where 69 lives were lost.
