Months after inauguration, Ahmedabad’s new air terminal still not functional

Strange are the ways of central Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel and his Airport Authority of India(AAI).

New Ahmedabad airport terminal which was inaugurated two months before, is not working even now.

After token arrival of two international flights on 1st September, the new terminal is once again closed, and all air traffic is handled at old airport terminal only.

Central minister Praful Patel inaugurated the new terminal on 4 July, and strangely announced that after the inauguration, the new terminal would actually start working from 15th of August. However the new terminal couldn’t start functioning on promised date, and the new date was announced as 1st September. To keep this date, the AAI just tokenly operated two incoming flights and some clearances of inbound passengers were done manually at the new terminal due to lack of ready infrastructure. But after two partial token operations, the new terminal is once again closed, and nobody knows, when actually it will be fully functional!

The new terminal was to be ready about two and half year ago according to original plan.
