“Most of the time, Governments work like fire fighting team. Whenever problem occurs, government responds to it, however we believe that governments should not work only like fire fighting team, but also should carry out projects on the basis long-term vision to address the issues of people,” Modi said while speaking at ‘Swarnim Urja Shakti Mahotsa’ in north Gujaat’s Palanpur yesterday.

“Traditionally 80% power generation in the state was happening in south Gujarat, because of which we were facing transmission related issues such as line loss, power theft and other obstructions, therefore our government started setting up power projects in Saurashtra, Kutch, and now we are doing that in north Gujarat too,” Modi said.

“In last ten years, the size of our power network has become huge. We have added cable network in last ten years that is five time longer than the size of Gujarat’s entire border. We have commissioned a unique project of providing power to pilgrim town Bet Dwarka through submarine cable. In entire nation we are no.1 in such kind of initiative,” Modi added.

Modi said one of the reasons behind Gujarat’s industrial development is state’s strong power sector that provides committed supply.

Modi reiterated his resolve to make Gujarat a world-capital of solar energy. This will become true with world’s largest solar power plant near Radhanpur in North Gujarat start functioning, he said.

More than one lakh people form Mahesana, Banaskantha, Patan and Sabarkantha district thronged the place. “Presence of large number of people here despite of skin-beating heat signifies that Gujarat’s future is bright”, observed Chief Minister.

Chief Minister took an hour-long visit of a grand exhibition displaying the state’s achievements in the field of power and energy. He also flagged-off Swarnim Asmita Yatra

Shri Modi further said that Gujarat has now become a power-surplus state with 18,000-MW power production capacity. Life in villages has changed as people are getting 24-hour electric supply due to Jyotigram scheme. Milk producers in villages have come out of nightmare of milk spoilage, as they are provided with cold storage machines

He said that Gujarat government is committed to supply gas to every house in Palnpur. Tender process for installing gas pipelines from Mahesana to Palanpur is on hand and the work will get done in short time. In the past, people had to take lot of pains to get gas cylinders. Considering this, State government has put in 2000-km gas pipeline in the state with the expense of crores of rupees.

Central government is giving gas to Gujarat on a high price compare to the rest of India. Gujarat will carry on its growth despite such injustice from Center, He said. Cheques of Rs.85-lakh were donated to Chief Minister’s Kanya Kelavani Nidhi by various organizations.
