Trenton, New Jersey America, 10 December, 2011
Trenton city police identified the woman who was struck and killed while crossing Route 129 Tuesday morning as Jashiben Patel, 53, of Center Street.
Jashiben Patel was hit by a vehicle driven by a Trenton Fire Department chief on his way to work, police said.
A police investigation revealed that Patel crossed the street against the light and walked into the crosswalk when it wasn’t safe to cross, Varn said.
No charges have been filed against Battalion Chief Todd Fell, a 19-year veteran of the fire service. His city-owned unmarked sedan struck the woman as she crossed the highway, police said. The incident is still under review by the city police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Varn said.
