Election Commission adds 3.88 lakh fresh voters in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, 17 January 2012
The Election Commission of India(EC)’s Gujarat office has added 3.88 first-time voters who completed 18 years of age on 1st January 2012. These youths will be among 3.66 crore voters of Gujarat who would be able to vote in the state assembly general election, scheduled in December this year.
On January 25th, an event will be held in Gandhinagar town hall as a part of the National voters day celebration. The event will be presided by the Governor of Gujarat. 15 new youth voters will be given election identity card in this programme. Parallely, on same day, all fresh voters will be given the election identity cards at 26,000 polling booths. The youths will take pledge that compulsory voting is their right and they would use their right.
