Lathicharge on agitating jewellers on SG Highway (Video)

SG Highway of Ahmedabad today witnessed ugly scenes when police lathicharged a group of jewelers protesting against newly imposed custom and excise duty.
In the course of their 18-day long agitation, a group of jewelers was blocking traffic on busy SG Highway today morning protesting against newly imposed excise duty in union budget. Jewelers were shouting slogans against central Finance minister Praban Mukherjee. When traffic situation worsened, policemen started lithicharge to restore traffic.
As a part of statewide protest against excise and custom duty, a group of agitating jewelers blockaded traffic at Racecourse circle in Vadodara for more than an hour. More than 20 jewelers were detained by police.
Similarly, a group of jewelers was detained by police in Surat during highway blockade programme today morning.
Programmes of highway blockage were also given in Jamnagar, Valsad, Navsari and other places.
