Heritage design for BRTS bus-stands in wall city Ahmedabad proposed

Bird feeding towers(Chabutaro), and houses made from material like wood and stones. This is the identity of the wall city of Ahmedabad. And you may soon witness reflection of these heritage elements in construction of the new BRTS bus-stands, coming up in the wall city area.
Speaking at the international symposium on heritage management at Ahmedabad University today, Shri Sunil Shah, Chairman of Revenue committee, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) announced that the design of new BRTS bus-stands in wall city area will reflect the heritage value of wall city area in some way. He said the wall city bus-stops will be different than the existing BRTS bus-stops in western Ahmedabad and other parts of the city. He added that professor Shivanand Swamy of CEPT is working on this.
On the sideline of the conference, replying to DeshGujarat’s query, professor Swamy said that two different designs have been submitted to the AMC for approval. It is to see that what comes out.
He said, the idea is to give stone effect on exterior side and usage of wooden elements on interior side. Also, erection of Chabutaras is proposed, Shri Swamy said.
The new design will raise the construction cost of the bus-stands. More than 10 bus-stands are to be constructed for wall-city area phase of the BRTS project.
