Chief Secretary convenes pre-monsoon meeting on disaster management

A pre-monsoon meeting on disaster management chaired by Chief Secretary Shri AK Joti was held today in Gandhinagar.
Director of Ahmedabad office of IMD, Manorama Mohanti gave audio-visual presentation and said that 99% rain is predicted in monsoon 2012 in Gujarat.
In his presentation, Dr. R.Banerjee, Chief Executive Officer of Gujarat state disaster management authority said that emergency operation centers are working in each district of the state.
Relief Commissioner Punamchand Parmar said that Gujarat’s average rain is 800 mm, but in last ten years, the pattern of monsoon has changed. He said that between 1981-2000 the average rain in Gujarat was 743 mm while in first ten years of 21st century, average rain was 914 mm. This shows 23% increase.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of concerned departments of central govt, army, air force and coast guard.
