Kharif sowing 2012: Corn and Guar up, Cotton and Ground nut still on the top but down compare to last year

A quick look on the figures of Kharif crops sowing witnessed in Gujarat till 25th of June this year. All figures are obtained from the Agriculture department.
-Last year till 25 June, the total sowing witnessed in Gujarat was 9221 hectares, while this year it was 7097 hectares.
-Last year ground nut sowing area was 3762 hectares, this year it was 1672. Similarly Cotton is down to 3825 hectares compare to 4555 hectares last year. Other crops: paddy 54 hectares last year but 16 this year. Bajri 45 hectares last year, 22 this year. Udad 11 hectares last year, 3 this year, Soybean 35 hectares last year, 19 this year. Corn 15 hectares last year, 614 this year. Guar Seed 118 hectares this year compare to almost zero last year.
-Cotton sowing on the top covering 3825 hectares followed by ground nut on 1672 hectares. Both down compare to last year when cotton was sown on 4555 hectares and ground nut 3762 hectares.
-Massive increase in Corn and Guar Seed sowing. Corn up from 15 last year to 614 hectares this year, while Guar Seed covers 118 hectares this year compare to almost zero last year.
-Saurashtra has witnessed highest ground nut sowing which is 1523 hectares, while in Kutch the area under ground nut crop is 105 hectares. Saurashtra leads in cotton sowing with a total area of 1494 hectares while Kutch has 1021 hectare cotton area, and central Gujarat 945 hectares. The highest sowing of corn is witnessed in central Gujarat which covers 610 hectare.
-Other crops sown till 25 June are Mag 5 hectares, Tal 16, Vegetables 329 and fodder 371 hectares.
