Adani Group has signed MoU with Kandla Port Trust this week for Tuna port development project. Tuna port is owned by Kandla Port Trust.
According to sources, Adani will construct four ‘T’ shape jetty. Kandla Port Trust at present faces the problem of proper draft(depth of water). Fully developed Tuna port will solve this problem to some extent as the ‘T’ shape jetties are to be constructed near Tuna Outer buoy where 14 meter draft is available. At present there are two barge jetties that handle cargo through barges.
A decision to award this project to Adani group was made in last February. Sources told DeshGujarat that Rs 1190 crore PPP project of Tuna dry bulk terminal port has been awarded to Adani for next 30 years. Adani Group will build four ‘T’ shape jetty and other infrastructure facilities and will be responsible for dredging and maintenance works. Adani will use the infrastructure by giving 25.9% share to Kandla Port Trust. For Adanis, Tuna port will cut down the distance between hinterland and port by 60 km. For KPT, the new infrastructure is likely to scale up the cargo handling capacity by 14 million metric tone.
Sources said the future plan also includes a container terminal and a Special Economic Zone between Kandla and Tuna.
