Ahmedabad, 16 July 2012
The Metropolitan Court in Ahmedabad today dismissed a plea by controversial NGO operator Teesta Setalvad and Amrish Patel seeking access to the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) report on the Gulbarg Society massacre during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The SIT had earlier told the court that Teesta Setalvad might tamper with evidence if allowed to inspect original documents of the probe.
The Court however permitted the lawyer of Zakia Jafri to inspect the SIT report that runs into over 25,000 pages for five days beginning tomorrow. The magistrate also asked the SIT to file an affidavit clarifying whether it has withheld any document from the court or complainant Zakia Jafri.
