Provide full assistance to Gujarat for droughtproofing but with check: Gujarat Congress/NCP to Sharad Pawar and Jayram Ramesh

A delegation of senior leaders of Gujarat Congress and Nationalist Congress Party’s Gujarat unit led by GPCC President Arjun Modhwadia today met central Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Rural development minister Jayram Ramesh in Gandhinagar at leader of opposition Shri Shaktisinh Gohil’s residence to discuss drought like situation in the state.
The Congress/NCP delegation spoke with the minister on the issues like proper supply of drinking water, fodder and need to provide 16-hour power where underground water is available. The delegation told union ministers that centre should fully extend all support to the state government and provide financial assistance as per the state’s demand, but at the same time it should be checked that financial aide for drought proofing is not used for festivities and political programmes.
Both the ministers promised the leaders of Congress and NCP that they would meet the Chief Minister and officers on Friday and ask them to make proper arrangement of fodder, announcement of scheme for more cultivation of fodder, supply drinking water through a special scheme, and chalk out a plan to start relief works to provide employment to needy people. Union ministers also promised that centre would provide full assistance to the state government including the financial aide and it would see that the resources are not used for other purposes.
