Modi speaks on revival of monsoon at Mehsana on Sunday
Ahmedabad, 10 September 2012
Indra blesses Narendra again. While other areas of Gujarat witnessed good monsoon lately, Kutch was still facing water-scarcity. But now even Kutch is blessed by rains God.
‘Water-scarcity hit’ status has been lifted from eight out of total ten talukas of Kutch district after excellent rain last week-end. Scarcity-hit Abadasa taluka now faces danger of green drought – means problem of too much rain! While Anjar, Bhachau and Gandhidham talukas were declared scarcity-free after good rains, the last week-end rains also pulled out Abdasa, Lakhpat, Nakhatrana, Mandvi and Rapar from this list. It should be mentioned here that Abdasa and Lakhpat were till now the worst drought-hit talukas of Gujarat this monsoon. Only two talukas of Kutch that now need good rains are Bhuj and Mundra.
Fresh rains solve fodder problem completely, while drinking water and irrigation water issues are also solved to larger extent. As many as 30 check dams were overflowing in Kutch district on Sunday. Services of ST buses, power supply were adversely affected due to heavy rain in Abdasa belt. Roads are in bad shape at many places in the district due to powerful strike of rains. Farmers are now banking on short-term crops. Castor, Juvar and Guar are hot favorite among them. Humid and sunny atmosphere has departed, and people are feeling the effect of monsoon lately now.
Bhuj’s Hamirsar lake has received fresh inflow of water. In Zinkai village, Sanrai reservoir started overflowing. Village sarpanch welcomed this with a ceremony to worship water which was joined by all villagers.
