Rise and rise of SURSEZ

Sachin based Surat Special Economic Zone (SURSEZ) has broken all records of its own by exporting goods worth Rs 34,365 crore in last nine months of year 2012. This is a big jump, because in same period in year 2011 the total export was worth Rs 18,831 crore only.

The SEZ was established in year 2011 and till date it has witnessed highest export in year 2012. SURSEZ targets to complete the target of Rs 42,000 crore export in fiscal year 2012-13. In 2010-11 it was Rs 38,156 crore and the target was achieved, while in 2009-10 it was Rs 23981 crore and in 2008-09 it was Rs 25307 crore.

Interestingly the Surat Special Economic Zone (SurSEZ) enjoys the status of country’s second largest export zone after Reliance Industry Limited’s (RIL) Jamnagar SEZ in terms of highest export turnover.

There are total 231 units in Surat Special Economic Zone that employ direct/indirect employment to 15,000 people. Surat SEZ has major presence of jewelery, diamond, garment, textile, pharmacy, metallic yarn, engineering, biotech, computer hardware-software, laser machinery, chemical, medical tools, equipments, stent and writing instrument units.

SURSEZ has inland container depot, custom house, strong room, hospital, school, garden and other facilities.
