The bye-election of four seats of the Gujarat state legislative assembly, and two seats of Lok Sabha are likely to be held in the month of May alongwith the assembly election in Karnataka. Reliable sources on Monday hinted that the election commission might make announcement once the budget session of Gujarat assembly is over by first week of next month.
Though officials in the Chief Electoral Officer in Gandhinagar are tight lipped about the announcement of the bye-election but the possibility of holding the crucial bye-election in May could not be ruled out as still there was enough time for the commission to make required arrangements for the bye-election for which the opposition congress party has already started campaigning. The GPCC president Arjun Modhavadia has already addressed election meeting in Jetpur in Rajkot district on Sunday and there by launched the campaigning from where three byelection would be contested.
Senior BJP leaders R C Faldu and Purshottam Rupala and Vijay Rupani have already conducted an in-depth study of the post assembly election situation and they would soon entrust the responsibility of Jetpur and Dhoraji seats to the core team as party is committed to raise its tally of 115 in 182 member Gujarat assembly.
Meanwhile, teams of Chief Election Officer have already undertaken revision of electoral rolls in Gujarat soon after the assembly election was over in December. The revision work is in full swing after January 1st ,2013 a senior official said.
Sources said that as expected bye-election are likely to be held in first or second week of May as still there is adequate time for holding the bye-election of both state assembly and Lok sabha.
