Karnataka results: One Gujarati politician is top gainer

Ahmedabad, 8 May 2013

Victory of Congress party in Karnataka assembly elections will further escalate Gujarat politician Madhusudan Mistry’s position in Congress party in Delhi. Mistry was in-charge of Congress party’s Karnataka affairs during and before the state assembly election season. He played a role of decision maker and executor of decisions(taken by Sonia and Rahul Gandhi).

We wrote a line some time back in one of our articles that if you ask who are the two most powerful Gujarat Congress politicians in Delhi at present, Madhusudan Mistry would be mentioned in reply. Well, that’s because Madhusudan Mistry, an activist turned politician is in core team of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

Mistry is former Lok Sabha MP. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Sabarkantha in north Gujarat. He lost year 2009 Lok Sabha election. One of the reasons of his defeat was implementation of new delimitation which was not in his favour.

Mistry’s golden time in politics began in March 2011. Congress president Sonia Gandhi constituted a new Congress Working Committee, and Madhusudan Mistry was made party’s General Secretary. He was made in-charge of party’s Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep units.

There is no doubt that Mistry enjoys excellent support of powerful lobbies of NGOs and Church.

Success of Karnataka elections adds weight to Mistry’s political position in Indian National Congress.
