8% rise in dearness allowance for Gujarat govt employees/pensioners

The Gujarat State Cabinet with Chief Minister Narendra Modi in chair today decided to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government karma yogis by eight per cent at par with the Centre, with effect from January 1, 2013.
The government spokesperson-ministers Nitinbhai Patel and Saurabhbhai Patel said the employees are at present getting 72 percent as the DA which would be increased to 80 per cent. The noteworthy decision would benefit about 4.86-lakh employees and 3.77-lakh pensioners. It would entail an additional burden of Rs.1,036-crore on the state exchequer.
The beneficiaries include karma yogis working in government departments, panchayats and grant-in-aid institutions.
