IPS GL Singhal gets bail in Ishrat Jahan encounter case

Ahmedabad, 27 May 2013

Gujarat IPS GL Singhal has got default bail today in Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Singhal had applied before special CBI court for default bail as CBI failed to file charge sheet against him in prescribed period of 90 days. CBI had opposed Singhal’s bail, however the court delivered decision in Singhal’s favour today. Singhal has got bail on Rs one lakh bond. He will need to submit his passport. He will need to produce himself before the CBI every month in first week. He will have to support the investigation procedure. Unlike other cops, Singhal is accused in only one encounter case, and therefore he will be able to enjoy free air. There are speculations that CBI didn’t file charge sheet against Singhal in prescribed period because Singhal helped CBI to lead investigation in “right direction”. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate S H Khutwad today also granted bail to other three cops Mr Tarun Barot, Mr J G Parmar and Mr Bharat Patel in this case.
