Left leaning NGO Jan Sangharsh Manch’s operator and lawyer Mukul Sinha withdrew a petition seeking contempt of court proceedings against BJP leader Arun Jaitley in the Gujarat High Court.
A contempt petition against Jaitley was filed objecting Jaitley blog article on his website on Lashkar-e-Taiyaba terrorist Ishrat Jahan’s encounter case. The High Court expressed its reservations, after which Sinha withdrew his plea.
The High Court bench of Justices Jayant Patel and ZK Saiyed observed that, “In democracy everybody has a right to know and right to express their opinions. Courts are not swayed by it.”
When Mukul Sinha insisted to pursue the matter, Justice Patel said, “Propriety demands that we should not initiate any proceedings as another bench of this court is seized with the matter.”
