Ahmedabad, 18 June 2013
The Gujarat High Court today stayed Nagar Palika (Municipality) elections in Porbandar.
The state election commission had declared dates of mid-term elections of Porbandar Municipality last week. According to an announcement last week, the elections were to be held on 7th of July.
Congress ruled Porbandar Municipality was superseded by Urban development department of Gujarat government after elected civic body in minority failed to pass its budget more than twice. Local unit of Congress party had challenged this decision in High Court. In previous elections, both BJP and Congress won 21-21 seats. The total number of seats are 42.
