Sansrod butchers booked under PASA, siren from mosque mentioned in FIR

Four butchers involved in killing of cows at Sansrod village of Vadodara district are booked under PASA with immediate effect. According to district collector this was the first incident when PASA was imposed in such a type of case. He said the case was serious not only because of slaughtering of cows, but also because of attack on police men on duty.

He said the complaint in this case involves specific 54 persons with individual name, and a group of 100 persons. All of them are booked under 14 serious and 4 other sections. The investigation has been handed over to Police Inspector Barot.

Four butchers Ismail Ahmed Limdawala, Harukh Mohammadhussain Bapu, Diwan Abdul Ibrahim Limdawala and Mayuddin Umarji Ghanina who arrested on Wednesday with sharp weapons to kill cows were produced in court on Thursday. The court sent them to 5 days remand. Police has arrested three more on Thursday and rounded up 25 persons. Of them 15 were found at one single place.

Seven teams are fielded to arrest the accused. Police staff from 8 police stations, headquarters and one SRP company has been deployed in the village. 87 cows were rescued on Thursday during the raids carried out by police team led by DySP Usha Rada. 51 of them were rescued from within the village, while rest of them were found on the periphery areas. The cows were painted with symbols of moon and star, and some had garlands tied on neck. Police found beef and sharp weapons during combing operation in village.

Check posts are setup to register those leaving and entering the village. The State Reserve Police(SRP) force has set up tents at the entry point of the village. One police vehicle has also been deployed there. 177 policemen are deployed at 13 different points in the village. Leaving 1,000 Hindus, most of the Muslims locked their houses and fled to avoid police detention/arrest.

District Collector and District Police Chief denied the reports that any police man faced hostage situation on Wednesday. They said the policemen were hiding at a place after chased by 150-strong mob. They were pulled out at proper time.

The district police chief is criticized for not sending added police force inside the village on Wednesday itself when violence broke out. Entire district police staff continued to camp at a petrol pump outside the village. Though Thursday’s combing was in full force, the culprits got enough hours to lock their house and escape.

When pointed out this, the district police chief said that police force was not sent inside the village to prevent damage to life an property.He said there was police presence inside the village.

He said the police complaint mentions the incident of siren sound from the mosque. It’s a matter of investigation whether the loud speakers on mosque relayed provoking messages.

The district police chief further said that blood was found on the cloths of butchers arrested on Wednesday. In its initial report the Forensic Science Laboratory has confirmed that it was cow blood.
