Amreli court sentences 3 to life imprisonment in cow slaughter case

Gandhinagar: Terming the historic verdict delivered by an Amreli court in a heinous case of cow slaughter as a “red light” for those who slaughter cow offspring, the state government’s spokesperson and Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said that the cow is the centre of Indian culture and faith. He asserted that the state government will show no mercy in cases of cow slaughter.

Vaghani said that, acting on a tip-off, the Amreli Police had arrested three accused for slaughtering and selling cow offspring. Following the investigation, a chargesheet was filed, and the Amreli court convicted all three accused, sentencing them to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5 lakh.

The minister further noted that Gujarat’s strict anti-cow slaughter law was first enacted in 2011 under the leadership of the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The law was later made more stringent with the inclusion of life imprisonment as a punishment. Gujarat, he said, leads the country in enforcing one of the toughest legal provisions against cow slaughter, and this judgment marks a new milestone in that commitment.

Emphasizing the government’s firm stance, Vaghani said the verdict sends a clear message that the state will take the strictest legal action against anyone who commits cruelty or injustice toward cows. “After this historic judgment, even those who merely think of engaging in cow slaughter will be deterred,” he remarked.
