Renowned Odia Playback Singer Humane Sagar Passes Away at 34
November 18, 2025
Bhubaneswar: The Odia film and music industry, popularly known as Ollywood, is in profound mourning following the untimely death of beloved playback singer Humane Sagar on Monday evening. The 34-year-old artist, celebrated for his soulful and emotive voice that defined a generation of Odia romantic and devotional songs, succumbed to multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Humane Sagar, whose real name was Humane Sagar (often spelled Human Sagar in media reports), was admitted to the hospital’s emergency department on November 14, 2025, in a critical condition. Medical sources confirmed he suffered from a combination of severe ailments, including acute-on-chronic liver failure, bilateral pneumonia, dilated cardiomyopathy with severe left ventricular dysfunction, and refractory shock leading to MODS. Despite aggressive treatment by a team of specialists, including ventilator support and advanced life-support measures, he did not respond and was declared dead at approximately 9:08 PM on November 17.
Born on November 25, 1990, in Titlagarh, Bolangir district, Humane Sagar grew up in a family steeped in music—his grandfather was a composer for private albums, and both parents were singers. His breakthrough came in 2012 when he won Season 2 of the reality show Voice of Odisha on Tarang TV. This victory catapulted him to fame, and his debut playback song—the title track of the 2015 film Ishq Tu Hi Tu, composed by Abhijit Majumdar—became a massive hit, establishing him as a household name.
Over his prolific career, Sagar lent his versatile voice to hundreds of Odia film songs, bhajans, and independent albums. Notable works include hits from films like Tu Mo Love Story, Gopa Re Badhhuchhi Kala Kanhei, Baby, and Agastya, as well as albums such as Niswasa, Bekhudee, Tuma Otha Tale, and Chehera (2017). He also ventured into Hindi music with the album Mera Yeh Jahan. Often dubbed “Odisha’s Arijit Singh” for his emotional depth and raw power, Sagar’s songs resonated deeply with listeners, blending folk roots with modern melodies.
On a personal front, Sagar married singer Shriya Mishra in 2017—whom he met during Voice of Odisha—and the couple had a daughter. Their relationship faced public scrutiny due to allegations of extramarital affairs and marital discord, leading to a brief separation and counseling in 2023, but they reconciled. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and mother.
Tributes poured in from across Odisha and beyond, highlighting the irreparable void left by his passing. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi posted on X (formerly Twitter): “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of renowned playback singer Human Sagar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music and cinema. I convey my condolences to the bereaved family and pray to God for the peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti.”
Former Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik, who had earlier prayed for Sagar’s recovery when he was hospitalized, expressed grief: “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Humane Sagar. His soulful music has touched the hearts of countless listeners, and his contributions to Odia music will always remain memorable.”
Fans and colleagues flooded social media with heartfelt messages, sharing clips of his songs and personal memories. Many described his voice as the “soundtrack of heartbreak” in Odia cinema, with posts emphasizing how his music would live on eternally. The Biju Janata Dal official account also paid homage, noting his “magical voice and dedication to music will remain immortal.”
As Odisha grieves the loss of one of its brightest stars just days before what would have been his 35th birthday, Humane Sagar’s legacy endures through the timeless melodies that captured the essence of love, longing, and devotion for millions. His sudden departure serves as a stark reminder of life’s fragility, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of the state.
