Vadodara: In a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents and fatalities on National Highway 48, the Vadodara City Police has launched the ‘Zero Fatality Corridor’ project.
The primary objective of the project is to ensure that no lives are lost in accidents on the highway. The safe corridor will cover the NH-48 stretch from Aravalli to Valsad, including a 65-km section passing through Vadodara city. The initiative focuses on improving road infrastructure, eliminating black spots (accident-prone locations), and ensuring immediate medical assistance for accident victims.
As part of the project, around 30 private hospitals located near the highway have been linked to the initiative to provide cashless and prompt treatment to injured persons.
Police Commissioner Narsinh Kumar, Vadodara MP Dr. Hemang Joshi, and Waghodia MLA Dharmendrasinh Vaghela were present at the programme held at Sayajipura APMC in Vadodara.
Narsinh Kumar, Police Commissioner, Vadodara, said, “This project has been launched to reduce road accidents on National Highway No. 48 passing through Gujarat and to make the stretch from Aravalli to Valsad safer under the concept of a Zero Fatality Corridor. Infrastructure improvements will be undertaken along the 65-km stretch within Vadodara city. As part of the emergency response system, around 30 private hospitals have also been associated with the project to facilitate cashless treatment for accident victims.”
Dr. Hemang Joshi, MP, Vadodara, said, “The Zero Fatality Corridor on NH-48 is being launched on the initiative of the Police Commissioner. I appeal to all drivers to follow traffic rules. Doing so is not only beneficial for the country but, more importantly, for our own families. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and every citizen must follow traffic regulations.”
Dharmendrasinh Vaghela, MLA, Waghodia, said, “We have submitted representations regarding blind spots on the highway, and infrastructure improvements will be carried out. However, along with these efforts, individual self-discipline is equally important. Through collective efforts, we aim to achieve the goal of zero fatalities on the highway.” DeshGujarat
