₹400 crore Mahakaleshwar – Salasar Balaji temple complex to come up in Surat
February 07, 2026
Surat: Mahakaleshwar–Salasar Balaji Mahadham, a temple complex replicating Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple and Rajasthan’s Salasar Balaji Hanuman Temple, along with consecrated idols reflecting the original forms of the deities, will come up on 41 bighas of land at Palsana on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway.
Shree Mahakaleshwar Salasar Hanuman Sewa Trust chairman Satyanarayan Goyal said preparations have been underway for nearly two years. The project, estimated at around ₹400 crore, will have its foundation stone laid on April 29, 2026, in the presence of saints, mahants, and social and political leaders from across the country.
Trust treasurer Ravi Kapoor said facilities such as a guest house, meditation centre, devotees’ accommodation, dining arrangements, and a cowshed will be created across 11 bighas. A sanctum sanctorum on the lines of Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple will house the consecrated idol of Mahakaleshwar. The temple is expected to open for public darshan by 2029.
The complex will also include a jalkund similar to Ujjain’s and a cowshed for 500 cows. Plans are underway to establish a spiritual university for around 1,000 students to study Sanatan culture.
Pradeep Guruji, chief priest of the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain, said lakhs of devotees residing in Surat regularly visit Mahakaleshwar and Salasar Balaji. The new temple complex is expected to become a major centre of faith for devotees in the city and nearby regions. DeshGujarat
