Relief Likely From Heatwave Across Gujarat Over Next Six Days; Temperatures May Dip Slightly

Gandhinagar: After intense heatwave conditions gripped several parts of Gujarat over the last few days, residents may finally see some relief in the coming six days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual fall in daytime temperatures across the state.

The latest weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad stated that maximum temperatures are expected to decrease by around 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next two days(15 and 16 May). After that(till 22 may), temperatures are likely to remain stable with no major fluctuations across the region.

The forecast comes after several areas witnessed severe summer conditions. During the last 24 hours, heatwave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of Saurashtra-Kutch, including Bhavnagar and Kandla port in Kutch. Heatwave conditions were also reported in parts of Vadodara district, Okha in Dwarka district and Diu. Bhavnagar recorded the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 45.2°C.

While dry weather is expected to continue across Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch, Diu, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli over the next week, the heatwave threat is likely to ease significantly after the first day of the forecast period. IMD has issued heatwave warnings only for isolated areas including Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Kutch and Diu for Day-1, while no heatwave warning has been issued from Day-2 onward.

However, despite the anticipated relief, temperatures are still expected to remain above 40°C in a few pockets of Gujarat for the next five days.

For Ahmedabad and nearby areas, the weather department has predicted mainly clear skies with the city likely to witness a maximum temperature of around 42°C.

The expected moderation in temperatures is being seen as a welcome respite for people across Gujarat after days of extreme heat, though authorities continue to advise precautions against prolonged sun exposure and dehydration. DeshGujarat
