Ahmedabad’s 6-Lane ISKCON–Sanand Elevated Corridor Likely to Open by July 15

Ahmedabad: Relief may soon be in sight for commuters using Ahmedabad’s heavily congested S.G. Highway stretch. The 4-km-long six-lane elevated corridor being constructed from ISKCON to Sanand Circle is expected to become operational by July 15, 2026, according to project details shared by authorities.

The elevated bridge, being built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aims to significantly ease congestion on one of the city’s busiest traffic corridors. Officials estimate that nearly 1.5 lakh vehicles will use the bridge daily, reducing travel time and easing pressure at major bottlenecks.

Key traffic junctions to get relief

With the project becoming operational, traffic congestion at key points including YMCA, Karnavati Club and Prahladnagar Circle is expected to reduce substantially. Motorists using the S.G. Highway corridor will be able to travel directly above these junctions instead of navigating through signalized intersections.

Authorities have also planned special entry and exit ramps for local commuters needing access to these areas.

Project cost rises to Rs 530 crore

According to NHAI, the project was initially awarded at a tender value of Rs 385 crore, but the overall expenditure is now expected to touch Rs 530 crore.

The elevated structure has been designed as a single-pier system, supported by central pillars, helping optimize space usage on the busy highway stretch.

Major features of the corridor

  • Length: 4 km
  • Lanes: 6-lane elevated corridor
  • Width: 27 metres
  • Design: Single-pier elevated structure
  • Technology: CCTV cameras and modern monitoring systems
  • Parking: Space under the bridge to be used for parking and traffic management

YMCA–Karnavati Club road reopening by May-end

As part of bridge construction work, the road between YMCA and Karnavati Club had remained closed, forcing commuters to take diversions for several months. NHAI now claims that this stretch is likely to reopen by May 31, providing some immediate relief before the full elevated corridor becomes operational.

Ramps expected later

While the main elevated route is targeted for opening in July, officials said construction of the boarding and exit ramps is expected to continue and may be completed by September 15. Once completed, local traffic movement is expected to become smoother and more accessible.

The corridor is being viewed as one of Ahmedabad’s key urban traffic infrastructure projects aimed at reducing congestion on the rapidly expanding western side of the city. DeshGujarat
