All 7 Railway Crossings Set to Go in Junagadh, New Station to Come Up

Junagadh: Residents of Junagadh are set to receive major relief from the city’s long-standing traffic congestion issues, as the Railway Board has approved the construction of a new meter-gauge railway station in the Grofed area on the Visavadar–Junagadh meter-gauge section under the Bhavnagar division of Western Railway.

The key highlight of the project is the proposed permanent closure of the existing 4.2-km meter-gauge railway stretch between Grofed and the current Junagadh station once the new Grofed station becomes operational.

At present, this railway line passes through densely populated parts of the city and intersects with seven level crossings, commonly known as Sampar Phataks, which frequently remain closed for extended periods due to train movement. The closures often lead to severe traffic congestion across multiple parts of the city.

Railway officials believe the move will provide a long-term solution to one of Junagadh’s major civic issues. After implementation of the project, all seven level crossings located within city limits are expected to be removed, bringing permanent relief from recurring traffic bottlenecks.

The project is also expected to improve daily commuting conditions for residents, school students, office-goers, and emergency service vehicles, which often face delays due to traffic congestion near railway crossings.

In addition to easing traffic movement, authorities expect the removal of level crossings in densely populated areas to significantly reduce the risk of road and railway accidents, enhancing overall public safety.

The project is likely to bring major infrastructure and traffic management benefits to Junagadh, particularly for residents living in areas affected by frequent railway gate closures. DeshGujarat
