Tathya Patel Walks Out of Jail After Supreme Court Grants Bail in ISKCON Bridge Case

Ahmedabad: Nearly three years after the fatal ISKCON Bridge accident in Ahmedabad, main accused Tathya Patel walked out of Ahmedabad Central Jail in Sabarmati on Wednesday after completing the bail formalities directed by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had granted regular bail to Patel on May 27, 2026, more than three-and-a-half years after the July 2023 accident that claimed multiple lives. While granting relief, the apex court directed Patel to deposit ₹1 crore before the trial court as a demonstration of bona fide intent.

On June 3, Patel’s lawyer, Nisar Vaid, reached Ahmedabad Central Jail with the necessary court documents after the bail bond was processed by the Ahmedabad Rural Court. Following the completion of the formalities, Patel was released from custody after spending two years, 10 months and 14 days in jail.

Patel’s father, Pragnesh Patel, was present outside the jail to receive his son upon his release.

According to advocate Nisar Vaid, the Ahmedabad Rural Court imposed the conditions stipulated by the Supreme Court while granting bail. Under these conditions, Patel cannot leave the country, and his passport will remain under the court’s control. He has also been directed not to engage in any similar activities in the future.

Meanwhile, Patel remains barred from driving for life. His driving licence was permanently cancelled by the Sabarmati Regional Transport Office (RTO) on the recommendation of the traffic police, making him ineligible to legally drive any vehicle in India.

The ISKCON Bridge case pertains to a high-profile road accident that occurred in Ahmedabad in July 2023. Police registered offences against Patel under Sections 279, 337, 338, 304, 504, 506(2), 308, 114 and 118 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 177, 189 and 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Investigators filed a 1,684-page chargesheet within seven days of the incident. Among the charges is Section 304 of the IPC, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment. DeshGujarat
