Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted across Gujarat ports; Fishermen Warning Issued

Ahmedabad: Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 (LC-III) has been hoisted at all ports along the Gujarat coast after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of active monsoon conditions and squally weather over the Arabian Sea. Authorities have also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea over the next five days due to rough conditions.

According to the IMD’s latest marine weather bulletin, squally winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected along both the North and South Gujarat coasts through the forecast period. The sea is likely to remain rough, with high waves making fishing and other marine activities unsafe.

The warning covers ports along the North Gujarat coast, including Jakhau, Mandvi (Kutch), Mundra, New Kandla, Navlakhi, Salaya, Okha, Bedi, Sikka (Jamnagar), and Porbandar. Similar conditions have also been forecast for the South Gujarat coast, covering Muldwarka, Veraval, Diu, Jafrabad, Pipavav, Port Victor, Bhavnagar, Alang, Bharuch, Dahej, Magdalla, and Daman.

The IMD has warned that strong southwesterly to westerly winds will keep the sea rough, particularly during the first day of the forecast, i.e., today, with unsettled conditions expected to persist over the following four days until July 7.

The weather department has also issued a warning for the open Arabian Sea, where winds are expected to reach 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, over parts of the southwest, central, and northeast Arabian Sea, including areas near the Somalia and Oman coasts.

In view of the deteriorating weather, Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 (LC-III) has been hoisted at all Gujarat ports. Port authorities and fishermen have been advised to remain alert, while fishermen have been specifically urged not to venture into the sea until weather conditions improve and further advisories are issued.
