Rs 107-Crore Vadaj Flyover Ready in Ahmedabad; Opening Expected in September

Ahmedabad: Motorists travelling through the busy Ashram Road and Vadaj Junction areas are set to get major relief, with the new four-lane flyover near Vadaj Circle now fully ready. The more than 700-metre-long flyover, constructed by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) at an estimated cost of Rs 107 crore, is expected to be opened to traffic in September.

The project, which was launched three years ago, is expected to benefit more than 1 lakh motorists travelling between Usmanpura, Ranip, Ashram Road, Bhimjipura and Shahibaug. At present, traffic congestion and long queues are frequently witnessed at signals around Vadaj Circle, particularly during peak hours.

Authorities are currently carrying out final inspections to assess the structural strength and safety of the flyover before opening it to traffic. Heavy and overloaded vehicles are also being checked as part of the ongoing load-testing exercise.

The administration is examining the bridge’s technical specifications, load-bearing capacity and other safety parameters before granting clearance for regular traffic.

The new flyover has been designed with two branches from Vadaj Junction. One branch will connect Usmanpura towards Ranip, extending for around 700 metres. It is approximately 15 metres wide and has four lanes. The second branch will connect Usmanpura towards Gandhi Ashram, with a length of around 365 metres and a width of approximately 5.5 metres.

Once operational, the flyover is expected to reduce the long queues and delays currently seen at Vadaj Circle, particularly during peak hours. Traffic moving towards Ranip and Gandhi Ashram will be able to bypass the busy junction, potentially reducing travel time and fuel consumption. DeshGujarat
