August 18, 2026
Surat: After three instances of creek flooding in July triggered anger among residents in affected areas, the administration has stepped up efforts to find a permanent solution to the problem. A special committee meeting on creek flood prevention was held at Tapi Bhavan on Monday. The meeting focused on surveying the city’s creeks, studying hydrology models and increasing their water-carrying capacity.
According to the consultant appointed by the civic administration, DGPS and drone surveys of around 188 km of creeks passing through Surat city have been completed. Processing of the survey data has also been completed, and work on the hydrology model has now begun.
Based on the model, the danger levels of the creeks will be reassessed. The consultant will submit a preliminary report along with recommendations for necessary changes within the next 15 days.
