Annual free health check-up of all school children in Surat begins

Free health check-up of Surat’s 8.36 lakh school-children will be conducted in a ten-day program starting from today. This program is a part of Gujarat government organized state-wide annual free health check-up scheme for school children.

Total 836000 children from 1290 schools including Municipal corporation run 272 schools and 1018 private schools will be checked up by 50 medical teams. Each team will include a medical officer, para medical worker and a teacher.

Treatment for skin diseases, Vitamin-A deficiency, Iodine deficiency will be given on the spot in the campuses while children with other diseases will be reffed to the Maskati Hospital, Smimer hospital and new civil hospital

According to details given by the Gujarat government’s Health department 743988 children were checked last year for health. Out of them 59191 children were treated in the schools while in special cases 174 children with heart disease, 22 with kidney disease and 16 cancer patient children were sent to Ahmedabad’s Civil hospital. 10 children with heart disease were sent to Chennai and Bangalore by the state government.
