What Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi prayed for at Pahind vidhi of 132nd Jagannath Rathyatra in Ahmedabad this morning?

Well, apart from many other things, he prominently prayed for good rain in the state. Modi said this while talking to media outside the temple this morning. He said Rathyatra is organized at 120 different places in Gujarat.

Modi was at Jagannath mandir to perform Pahind vidhi. Every year on the occassion of Rathyatra, this vidhi is performed by a person who is the Chief Minister of Gujarat. As per the traditions of Pahind vidhi, Modi did the symbolic cleaning of road from where the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balram and their sister Shubhadra pass. Modi has now made a record of performing Pahind vidhi for the highest time in Ahmedabad’s Jagannath mandir. In Orissa, Rathyatra’s Pahind vidhi is performed by head person from ex ruler family.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi was accompanied by assembly speaker Shri Ashok Bhatt, Revenue Minister Shrimati Anandiben Patel and Mayor of Ahmedabad Shri Kanaji Thakor. Minister of state for Home, Shri Amit Shah visited Jagannath mandir earlier in the morning.

Modi with others pulled Lord Jagdish, Balabhadra and Subhadra’s raths outside the campus of the Jagannath Mandir in Ahmedabad.
