Solar eclipse occurs in Gujarat, but views blocked by clouds

Surat, DeshGujarat, 22 July, 2009
Due to heavy presence of black clouds in the sky and also drizzle in the early morning, the people of Surat couldn’t witness the longest and the last total solar eclipse of this century. Surat is the city from where the solar eclipse began. The solar eclipse couldn’t be seen in Vadodara and Ahmedabad too due to heavy clouds.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi canceled his Surat visit apprehending the clouds that could obstruct eclipse view. He was scheduled to reach Surat at 5:45 am earlier to participate in solar eclipse watch programme.
It should be noted that Surat, Vadodara and the entire belt between these two cities was one of the prime zones to view 22nd July total solar eclipse and many curious spectators had arrived here to witness the solar eclipse.
However some darkness was felt due to solar eclipse for some minuted around 6:25 AM. But that too was not much exciting experience because it happened soon after the sun rise and under the dark clouds, means darkness could be attributed to these factors easily because of which the feel of solar eclipse was somewhat not that much.
In Surat, however, darkness was complete and thousands of people gathered at the airport shouted loudly when the darkness was total for some minutes.
