Unmanned railway crossings to be surveyed in Gujarat

After recent rickshaw-train accident at Jamnagar district’s unmanned railway crossing that killed 11 people, the Government of Gujarat’s Home department has asked all district police chiefs to collect and send details of all unmanned railway crossings in their district.
State’s District police administrations will submit details such as total number of unmanned railway crossings, their locations, history of accidents, highly accident prone crossings, figure and location of crossings with or without gate men etc in prescribe time. The exercise on field level will be carried out through police stations.
It should be mentioned here that early this week eleven people, including seven women, were killed when a Mumbai-bound Saurashtra Janta Express train rammed into an auto-rickshaw at an unmanned railway crossing near near Jaliya station in Dhrol taluka of Jamnagar district. The deceased were all residents of Haripara village in Lodhika taluka of Rajkot district. They had come to Mansar near Jaliya for a condolence meeting.
