Sangamon County, Illinois, America, 27 December 2011
A Gujarati NRI owned teenage night club is under scanner after numerous police calls, including fighting and occasionally gunfire sourcing from there.
Neil Patel owned teenage nightclub formerly known as Club Chrome witnessed murder of a 19-year-old man involved in a fight at this club. The man was stabbed once in the chest. He was taken to St. John’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 2:26 a.m. Sunday according to Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards.
A police report indicated the fight occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The man’s name had not been released pending family notification, Edwards said.
Club Chrome is closed, but the building at 3075 Normandy Road is used for private parties about twice per month, said Neil Patel, the facility’s owner.
Patel, who lives in St. Louis, said a private party was held at the building Saturday night. He said the fight started inside the building, but was broken up by security and Springfield police.
Patel said officers used pepper spray to disperse people involved in the fight, but it carried over to an area near the club. Private parties at the facility are required to have security and people are not allowed to bring weapons, according to Patel
For several years, Club Chrome had been the source of numerous police calls, including fighting and occasionally gunfire. Calls declined last summer, after the club stopped selling alcohol on weekends, increased security and only allowed teenagers.
