Gujarat receives 4.71% rain of the season so far

Gujarat has so far received only 4.71% of season’s total average rain. Following are the figures of deficit of rainfall this monsoon so far compare to average rain that should happen till this time.

Highest deficit of rain so far has been witnessed in Valsad, and it is -254 mms. Departure from normal rain in the case of Porbandar is -180 mms followed by Surat -166, Veraval it is -163, Anand – 161, Vadodara -110, Amreli -99, Idar -95, Okha – 82, Kandla Port -67, Ahmedabad – 65, Naliya -56.

The areas that show lower departure from normal rain so far in this season are: Rajkot -10, Deesa -18, Bhavnagar -30, Dwarka -38, Bhuj -37, yet there’s a departure.

Above calculations consider 1st June as starting date of the monsoon season.

Highest season rain has been witnessed so far in Valsad which is 167 mms followed by Rajkot 97 mm, Surat 94 mm, Bhavnagar 89 mm, Gandhinagar 72 mm.

“Conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Maharashtra and some more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh during next 48 hours,” the India Meteorological Department said in a forecast issued this evening.

Monsoon rains have been 31 per cent deficient so far and the weather office data showed 83 per cent of the area of the country.

The country as a whole has received 124.5 mm rainfall as against the normal of 180.6 mm since the onset till July one.

Rainfall in June accounts for 18 per cent of season’s total and the deficiency had been 29 per cent till yesterday. In 2009, the June rains were 47.2 per cent below a 50-year average called as the long period average.

This year has seen a delayed onset of monsoon rains over Kerala and they have been making a sluggish progress drawing concerns from the farming community. The weather office, however, has only marginally downgraded the seasonal forecast keeping it within the normal range.
