The city of Ahmedabad will host its maiden cyclothon, organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) on January 27.

The AMC expects to witness around 5,000 participants in this event that has been titled as ‘Arvind Sabarmati Cyclathon Amdavad 2013’. So far around 1,000 registrations has been received.

Mill workers from Arvind Ltd and Diamond workers from Bapunagar, newspaper vendors, milkmen etc are likely to participate in this event in a big number.

Sabarmati Cyclothon 2013’s trial run will be on 20th January, 2013 at 6.30 am at Vallabh Sadan, Ahmedabad.

The details of various kinds of races to be organized are following:

Sabarmati Cyclothon 2013 Race Time on 27th January, 2013 :

– Century Race (105 kms) starts from 7.00 am

– Half Century Race (48 kms) starts from 7.10 am

– Half Century Fixie (Non-geared) Race (48 kms) starts from 7.20 am

– Dream Ride (16 kms) starts from 7.30 am

Ahmedabad Bicycling Club is organizing community rides to help prepare you for the Cyclothon at Pakwan Restaurant on S. G. Highway at 6:30 am on every Saturday morning.

-DPS school children to provide their services as volunteers

-184 applications are received online for volunteers role

-Prize money to be given in two categories (general category of 18+ and Veteran category of 40+ women and 45+ men)

-Torrent power, IOC, Nilkanth group, Cadila pharma, Radio Mirchi, Divya Bhaskar, GTPL, Vagh Bakri tea, Mangalam info amd Polaris have given their services to make the event successful

-By 22 January 2013, 247 people have registered for century race, 294 for half century race, 347 for fix race, and 3989 for dream ride. Thus total 4877 participants have registered so far.

-All routes involving Cyclothon will be closed for vehicular traffic during 6.30 am and 1.00 pm.

-AMTS, BRTS and ST buses also will be diverted.

-Infinium Toyota has organized DJ Dhamal event on eve of the event (26 January) during 7-9 pm at Vallabh sadan river front.

-Musical and cultural events will also be organized at Parimal under pass and Manavmandir along with the main venue at Vallabh sadan.

-Finance Minister Shri Nitin Patel will falg off the event at 6.30 am on 27 January.

-Water, energy drink, 108 ambulances, medical teams, cycle mechanic teams, break down vehicle, volunteers will offer services on entire route.

-The prize money in Amdavad event is more than any other Cyclothon in India. Apart from main prizes, those who complete century race in qualification time limit will get Rs 3000 and those completing half century and fix race will get Rs 1500 in cash in different age groups.

-The parameters are fixed as per the guidance of Cycling Federation of India. On behalf of CFI, famous cyclists of India will participate in the event.

-The theme of the event is ‘My Amdavad, clean Amdavad’
