Kerala, 26 September 2013

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated several welfare projects of Amrita University in Kerala to mark the 60th birthday of Mata Amritanandamayi.

He arrived on the campus after saying his prayer at the famous Padmanabha Temple to take part in the Amma’s birthday function, attended by a large number of people from India and abroad.

Beginning his speech in Malayalam greeting the people of Kerala, Mr. Modi said that saints and seers have played a very significant role in the country’s freedom struggle since 1857, through a devotional path. They led social reforms and a spiritual movement, too

He exuded confidence that the spiritual leaders would lay the foundation stone to ensure Mother India is put on the pedestal of Vishw Guru once again by the time India celebrates her 75th anniversary of Independence.

Mr. Modi condemned the terrorist attacks on a church at Peshawar in Pakistan, on innocent people at Nairobi in Kenya and on Indian jawans in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the path of ‘vasudhaivakutumbakam’ shown by our seers is the solution to most of the problems facing the mankind today. He recalled that India’s saints had shown to the world the prowess of spiritual forces.

Mr. Modi described Mata Amritanandamayi as a huge tree under whose umbrella many people carried out welfare activities for the deprived and oppressed people that governments should do. He said that Amma is a combination of Indian sainthood and motherhood, which is best described in scriptures as ‘gurunam mata gariyasi’. He said that Amma has devoted her life for the mankind and not for self.

Amma also blessed Mr. Modi on the occasion and wished he attained greater heights and go up the stepping stones of success.
