Drone camera being used to find ‘strayed’ leopard in Gujarat village
December 19, 2016
Patan: The forest department is taking help of a drone camera to find out a ‘strayed’ leopard which has wreaked havoc in Borsan village of Patan district in North Gujarat.
The leopard first seen, three days ago had attacked and injured three people when they tried to beat it out of the village. Two of them were admitted to a hospital in Dharpur.
After this incident the people in and around the village has left moving alone in secluded outer areas owing to fear and also those living in houses located in sparsely populated parts have either vacated temporarily or moved to others places.
Meanwhile the forest department which had earlier conducted two days of futile search operation today decided to use a camera fitted drone to find the hidden beast.
A forest official involved in the search operation said that use of drone was the safest way. ‘If we notice it through the flying camera our operation to cage it will become easier. During the blind manual search the danger of attack and injury to people involved can’t be fully ruled out,’ he said.
The forest department has also put trap cages in the area to catch the beast.
