Ahmedabad: Heatwave conditions are set to persist across Gujarat for the next three days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that maximum temperatures will remain between 41°C and 45°C in several pockets. According to the IMD’s midday weather bulletin issued on May 12, 2026, dry weather is likely to prevail across the Gujarat region, Saurashtra-Kutch, Diu, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli until at least May 19. The department forecasts no large change in maximum temperatures during the next three days, followed by a gradual fall of 2-4°C thereafter.

The IMD has issued specific heatwave alerts for numerous districts. For May 12 (Day 1), severe heatwave conditions are very likely at isolated pockets in Surat, while heatwaves will continue in Surendranagar and Kutch (Orange Alert). Yellow alerts for heatwaves are also active for Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Amreli, Dwarka, and Botad. On May 13 and 14 (Days 2 and 3), the alert for severe heat shifts to cover Vadodara, Surendranagar, and Kutch, while heatwave warnings persist for Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Amreli, Dwarka, and Botad. No heatwave warnings are currently in place for May 15 and 16.

During the past 24 hours, severe heatwave conditions were recorded in Surat, while heatwaves prevailed in Surendranagar, Keshod, Kandla Airport, and Diu. Surendranagar registered the region’s highest maximum temperature at 45.5°C. Temperatures remained above normal to markedly above normal across parts of South Gujarat and Kutch. For Ahmedabad city and its neighborhood, the weather department has forecast mainly clear skies, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 44°C by Wednesday.

The IMD has advised the public to avoid heat exposure and stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses. Recommended actions include wearing lightweight, light-coloured cotton clothing and covering the head with a cloth, hat, or umbrella. The bulletin suggests drinking sufficient water and using ORS or homemade drinks such as lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, and buttermilk. Vulnerable groups, including infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses, are urged to take extra precautions during this ongoing heatwave spell. DeshGujarat
