Gujarat Braces for Heavy Rains as IMD Sounds Red, Orange and Yellow Alerts Till July 6

Ahmedabad: Rain activity is expected to intensify across Gujarat over the next seven days as the southwest monsoon advances further into the state, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing red, orange and yellow alerts for several districts. The heaviest rainfall is likely between July 3 and July 6, particularly over South Gujarat, while thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is also expected in many parts of the state.
According to the IMD forecast, red alert has been issued for Dang, Valsad, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli on July 3, where extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places. On July 4, the red alert expands to Dang, Tapi and Narmada, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall that could trigger waterlogging, flash floods and disruption to normal life.

An orange alert has been sounded for several districts during the same period. Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Narmada, Bharuch, Chhota Udepur and Vadodara are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on different days between July 3 and July 6. In Saurashtra, districts including Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Rajkot and Junagadh are also likely to witness heavy rainfall during the period.
A yellow alert has been issued for widespread thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph across large parts of North Gujarat, Central Gujarat, South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch. Districts including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka and Kutch are expected to experience thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall over the coming days.
The IMD has advised people in areas under heavy rain alerts to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from waterlogged and low-lying areas, and follow local administration advisories. Authorities have also warned of possible flooding, traffic disruptions, falling trees, damage to vulnerable structures and adverse impacts on agriculture due to intense rainfall and strong winds.
