Exit polls give 16 to 19 seats to BJP in Gujarat

As polling for 2009 Lok Sabha elections is over, Exit polls are out on different TV channels, and according to all exit polls, the BJP would gain in Gujarat. Channels however have varied opinions on how much this gain would be.

Out of total 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, BJP won 14 seats and Congress 12 seats in 2004 election.

According to Star News-Nielsen exit poll and NewsX-Nielsen exit poll for 2009 Lok Sabha elections, BJP will get 16 seats and Congress will get 10 seats in Gujarat. One of the Star News experts expressed possibility of MahaGujarat Janata Party leader Gordhan zadafiya’s victory on Bhavnagar seat, however this was his individual opinion.

According to India TV-C Voter exit poll, BJP will win 19 seats in Gujarat and Congress 7. This is very near to BJP’s own estimate.

According to Bharatiya Janata Party’s internal exit poll telecast on Aaj Tak news channel, BJP will win 29 seats in Gujarat and Congress 7. According to Congress party’s internal exit poll shown on Aaj Tak, BJP will win 16 seats and Congress will get 10 seats. However according to Congress party’s internal exit poll result according to NDTV gives 12 seats to Congress in Gujarat and 14 to BJP which is ditto same as 2004 election results.

NDTV in it’s own exit poll gives 18 seats to BJP in Gujarat and 8 to Congress.

As per the Times Now TV’sprojections, BJP will get 19 seats and Congress 7 in Gujarat.

According to IBN7-Dainik Bhaskar survey, BJP would get 48% votes in Gujarat that is 1% less than 2004 results, and Congress will get 44% while others would get 8% votes.

According to X-Factors narrated on CNN-IBN channel in connection with Gujarat, Narendra Modi remains most popular state leader and most preferred choice for the PM in Gujarat. There has been positive rating for BJP government helps the BJP retain an edge however context of national elections helps Congress recover some ground lost in assembly elections. Congress has partial recovery among KHAM (Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi and Muslims)

It should be noted that, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi expects BJP to make a clean sweep in Gujarat while Gujarat Congress President Siddharth Patel expects to snatch at least four seats from the BJP in the state. According to Star News-Nielsen exit poll, BJP would gain some Congress owned seats and Congress would get BJP’s seats, thus swapping will happen in Gujarat in which ultimately BJP will be in plus.
